Job Title: 2nd Shift Production Supervisor
Reports To: Production Manager

Summary: This role is responsible for meeting production metrics for safety, quality, delivery, cost, and continuous improvement for production operations. This individual will lead and mentor a team of hourly operators and work in close coordination with the supervisors and operators of other functional areas to effectively achieve this objective. Will be responsible to assemble a range of steel products as needed.
Provides leadership and management for their team to ensure a positive and professional work environment is maintained at all times. Sees to the productivity and development of the team and ensures team members are held accountable for their actions and performance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.
Experience of overseeing direct-line reports of at least 15 people working in a mass-production (high volume) environment to include operations whose cycle time is largely driven by operator motions and to include advanced, automated manufacturing machinery and equipment.
• Supervising operations within a facility to achieve higher output
• Organizing training and educational manuals for the production team
• Assisting in the recruitment and onboarding of new hires
• Ensuring compliance with safety and professional standards within a facility
• Organizing, monitoring, and prioritizing tasks to meet production goals
• Evaluating various stations of the production operation to ensure optimum efficiency
• Maintaining communication between employees and senior executives to ensure procedures and policies are well-understood
• Ensuring the flow of raw materials and other resources
Working knowledge of the following:
- mass production practices, processes, and scheduling techniques to include lean principles
- problem-solving tools to include 5 why’s and cause/effect diagrams
- production-leveling techniques and production signaling tools, especially Kanban techniques
- principles of standard work
- 5S techniques and practices
- OSHA standards for machine guarding and safe work practices in an industrial environment
- Leadership tools for creating focus and developing and maintaining winning teams;
- Engineering drawings and the ability to read engineering drawings;
- Industrial measurement tools
- Business information systems and computer production scheduling tools to include MRP and ERP
Scope of Responsibility:
- This job will have periodic access to confidential data including wages and salaries, financial statements, company records and/or minutes, product costs, and company plans, designs, and/or programs.
- This job follows standard practices and procedures, and is expected to accomplish work assignments with a limited amount of supervision.
Qualifications:
- Language Ability:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Math Ability:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Computer Skills:
Basic Computer skills needed.
Education/Experience:
- Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 2+ years supervisory experience in a system driven, process oriented environment.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the designated area. Also directly supervises several non-supervisory employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
